How I'm Building a Digital Product Business with $0 Ad Spend
The Setup
I sell AI workflow systems on Gumroad. Prices range from $29 to $149. My budget for ads: $0.
This is my exact traffic acquisition playbook — every channel, every tactic, zero paid tools.
Channel 1: GitHub Freemium Repo
The play: Give away 15 prompts for free on GitHub. Link to paid pack in README.
Why it works:
- Developers browse GitHub daily
- README is indexed by Google (free SEO)
- Stars compound over time
- "Free" + "MIT license" = trust
Cost: $0 · Time: 4 hours
Channel 2: Quora Answers
The play: Answer AI/ChatGPT questions on Quora. Link to products in bio.
Why it works:
- Quora answers are indexed by Google and rank for years
- Each answer is a permanent backlink
- People searching "best ChatGPT prompts" are high intent
- 15 answers → compounding traffic
Cost: $0 · Traffic quality: High (search intent)
Channel 3: Reddit Warmup
The play: Build karma in AI/productivity subreddits. Eventually share value posts.
Why it works:
- Reddit hates self-promotion but loves genuine value
- A text post that helps people → upvotes → visibility
- r/ChatGPT has 5M+ members
Cost: $0 · Conversion: Low volume, high trust
Channel 4: Pinterest Boards
The play: Pin AI tips, prompt templates, and infographics. Link to Gumroad.
Why it works:
- Pinterest is a visual search engine, not social media
- Pins live forever (unlike tweets)
- Business account = analytics
Cost: $0 · Long-term: Pins compound over months
Channel 5: SEO Content
The play: Write articles targeting AI prompt keywords.
Why it works:
- Articles get indexed by Google fast
- Permanent backlinks to GitHub repo → boosts repo SEO
- Internal linking creates a web of entry points
Cost: $0
The Funnel
Key insight: Every channel feeds the funnel. No single channel is enough. But together, they create a web of entry points that compound over time.

The Math
Month 1: 5 channels × 10 visitors = 50 visitors → ~1 sale → $30
Month 6 projection (with compounding):
- GitHub: 50+ stars → 100+ visitors/month
- Quora: 50+ answers → 200+ visitors/month
- Pinterest: 500+ pins → 300+ visitors/month
- Articles: 20+ → 500+ visitors/month
Month 6: 1,000+ visitors → 20 sales → $600/month
And it keeps compounding.
TL;DR
You don't need ads to sell digital products. You need:
- A free tier (GitHub repo) that proves your quality
- 5+ free traffic channels that compound over time
- Patience — SEO takes 3-6 months
- Consistency — daily action beats weekly sprints
